Someone asks:
Does anyone understand how the Activity Assessment Fee is calculated when selling stocks?
Answer:
Kyle G:
Sell orders are subject to an activity assessment fee (from $0.01 to $0.03 per $1,000 of principal). There is an Options Regulatory Fee (from $0.03 to $0.05 per contract,) which applies to both option buy and sell transactions. The fee is subject to change.
Here’s an example of how the activity assessment fee is calculated by Fidelity on sell orders.
Let’s just say it is .022 (2.2 cents) charge per 1000 transacted. That means 2.2 cents times 9.81353 (the transaction was 9813.52) is .21589766 which rounds to 22 cents.
And the other was 2.2 cents times 3.47492 (transaction was 3474.92) is .076448 which equals 8 cents rounded.
Based on 2.2 cents per 1000$ transacted.
Other fees on Fidelity that you may want to know about:
- ACATS transfer fee.
- Fees to purchase mutual funds of another brokerage.
- Record keeping fee.
- Foreign settlement fee.
