Is Active Trader Pro Going Away? What Changes and When

Short answer

Yes, gradually. Fidelity says it will begin sunsetting Active Trader Pro (ATP) in 2027 and is moving active traders to Fidelity Trader+, the platform it launched in September 2025. ATP is still available today, and Fidelity has not named a month for the shutdown, so you don’t need to switch this week. Fidelity’s own transition page and trading platforms page both say so.

Timeline

When What happened or is planned Source
Sep 25, 2025 Fidelity announced Fidelity Trader+, a free platform across web, desktop and mobile Fidelity newsroom
Through 2026 ATP remains available, per a Fidelity post on Oct 13, 2026 Third-party summary
2027 Fidelity begins sunsetting ATP; no month is given Fidelity transition page

Fidelity’s trading platforms page now calls ATP the “Classic” desktop platform and points users to the move to Trader+.

What changes when you move to Trader+

Most of your data comes with you, but your charts don’t. This is what Fidelity’s transition page says about each item.

Item What Fidelity says
Watchlists Migrate automatically; no action needed
Notes on positions and watchlists Migrate; add a “Notes” column in Settings to see them
Positions, orders and account data Move to Trader+ Desktop
Charts Do not transfer; rebuild them in Trader+ Desktop, after which they are available on every Trader+ version
Layouts Not stated; check your ATP setup and rebuild as needed
Alerts Not stated; Trader+ adds the ability to view and reactivate expired alerts

What’s new in Trader+

Fidelity lists these additions on the transition page:

  • Integration with Trader+ on the web and mobile, so charts and saved orders follow you across devices
  • Viewing and reactivating expired alerts
  • Screen sharing with Fidelity support
  • Keyboard hotkeys
  • Dollar-based and fractional trading
  • Trade-follow pricing (bid, mid or ask)
  • Crypto integration
  • Saved orders
  • Research widgets from LSEG
  • Extended-hours quotes and closing values
  • Watchlist import from CSV

Differences you’ll notice on day one

  • Layout: Trader+ Desktop is built from widgets that you arrange in workspaces. A layout can hold up to 4 workspaces, you can save up to 5 layouts, and workspaces autosave and can span several monitors.
  • Directed trading: To recreate ATP’s consolidated trading view, turn on directed trading under Settings > Trade > General, then add Level 2, Trade, and Time & Sales from the Tools menu.
  • Extended hours: Extended-hours and directed trading share one order ticket. Pick “Day+Extended” in the Details filter.
  • Download: Trader+ Desktop is available for 64-bit Windows and 64-bit macOS. After you sign in with your Fidelity login, the book icon at the top right opens the “Get Started” tutorial.

What to do now

You can run both platforms side by side, so there’s no need to rush. A sensible order:

  • ☐ Keep trading on ATP while it works for you; Fidelity has not set a shutdown month
  • ☐ Download Trader+ Desktop (64-bit Windows or macOS), sign in, and run the “Get Started” tutorial
  • ☐ Check that your watchlists and position notes came across
  • ☐ Before you rebuild charts, screenshot your ATP charts and note the indicators you use, since charts don’t transfer
  • ☐ Recreate your charts and save them as templates in Trader+
  • ☐ Rebuild your layout, and turn on directed trading if you use ATP’s consolidated trading view
  • ☐ Check your alerts, because Fidelity doesn’t say whether they carry over
  • ☐ Practice a few orders before you rely on Trader+ for fast trades; hotkeys and saved orders are new
  • ☐ Ask Fidelity for help: it lists a migration webinar and an active trader line at 800-343-3548 on the transition page
